incubation humidity
« on: February 15, 2010, 11:22 »
Hi,can any one answer this question.I read that when taking a reading off a  hygrometer from inside your ihcubator you also have too take into account the exterior humidity, and add that figure to your interior reading. This does'nt sound right to me ,surely if your meter is showing 40% rh, for example interior ,it is 40%.Can any one help? Eddy.

If you meter says it is 40% then it is 40%.

The room humidity can and will have an effect on the humidity in the Incubator. Higher the humidity in the room the easier it will be to get the Incubator up to the correct humidity in the last days.

Thanks for that Roughlee, just what i thought.I always keep the radiator turned down very low,it seems to help me reach a more stable temp and humidity in my incubation room.

Are you going to run dry for the first 18 days? If your amb humidity is 40% might be best. :)

Yes i will run my incubator dry for the first 18-19 days ,because i have had trouble in the past with the chicks hatching a bit too wet for my liking ,and possibly drowning in the shell.I rather they come out on the dry side for that reason alone .Shell quality may make a big difference,i only ever hatch barnevelders and sussex ,and the shells are quite thick, some people say that the eggs from different breeds dehumidify at different rates.Know your eggs i have heard experienced breeders say. What do you think;;;;;;;;;.
