Well Joyfull I will be going to visit friends up to Bradford next weekend.  Are you anywere between Southend and there?   :D   I havplace e found on the internet a place near Ilford that is doing a course on the 4th of March.  Think I will give them a call and sign up.  The more I read the forum here I get more and more excited.  Thinking of going around this weekend to ask neighbors and get feedback from them.

Also on Monday check the Land Registry to make sure that their no issues.  Having hubby help me measure to see the space I have to see if the type of coup will fit there.  Going to try to do some more research on how to protect them from foxes my back garden is surrounded by a 6 foot fence so thinking that is pretty good but after reading here how good they are thinking I need to do some more research.  Thanks again for all your advise and help!

Found the Land Registry and yes it says the basic no business and nothing that causes a nuisance, guess I should still talk to the neighbors.   ???

I didnt tell my neighbours untill one said to me do you hear the chickens someone has got it is just like being in the country. I then told her they are mine and gave her some eggs
and everyone thinks they are great. I have had a lot of people ask if they could see the chickens and once they have seen them they go away wanting some themselves. Giving eggs to the neighbours works marvels. :)

I definately plan on giving some eggs away.  Unfortunately I am not a huge egg eater so six eggs would last me 3 weeks or more.  Thinking I will be giving lots away!!  Having the chickens is more of a pet thing and the eggs are just a bonus for me.  I have lived in a huge city most of my life and would love to have a farm with some acreage to grow a nice veggy plot along with having some different livestock.  Hubby would go bonkers if he was in the country, though we live in a smallish area by my standards, but would really love to be much further out in the country.

I told, rather than asked, the neighbours that I was planning to get hens ... one was delighted, the other was very stern about not having a cockerel (which was fine by us) and they were both pleased to know.

A few months later, the stern neighbour complained ... that my hens don't cluck loud enough!! He likes to watch them but can't hear their chuntering  ::)

And bless him, he's been so good when they do make a noise as he has a dog that barks so he's very relaxed about any noise we make.
two daughters, nine hens, two goldfish, three cats ...

xx
don't wanna be left out.....
