roof and perch help.

  :wacko:Hi,I have got an a framed roof on my coup does any one no how to make one side hinged so the top does not let water in.plus got 2 new chooks a light sussex and a bluebelle how do you get your chooks on the perch at night, they kept getting in the nest box at night but i have blocked it off keep putting them on perch but they keep getting off and sleeping on the floor,could it be anything to do with my bantam plymouth rock,the hybird birds have only be in the coup a week and my bantam is the boss even thou she is a lot smaller than the others.thanks ;)

This question should really be in the "henhouse". Can't help with your roof problem. Lots of us have girls who won't perch and prefer the nest box to sleep in. You can try persevering with putting them on the perch each night, I gave up with mine in the end and just leave them to sleep where they want, although judging by the amount of poo under one of the perches lately I think at least one of them is now perching at night.
