dug a new veg patch in my backgarden this morning plus i have never grown veg before, so i was wondering what a should grow which isnt too hard aswell. thought it would be could too start learning and experiment becuase it will probably be around a year or so before i get my own allotment. First question is how big is your veg plot? If small then new spuds are ideal as they are lifted early and provide room for say leeks in the winter, brassicas generaly need lots of room and they are in for a good while, again if small go for faster growing veg.

As this is in your garden, if the area you have dug was grassed, be aware of potatoes in the first year as the ground is more than likely to contain wireworm and other pests than thrive under grassed areas. You may just get away with earlies.
