hi! has anyone noticed if their hens crops get massive when they are laying eggs? the 3 of mine that are laying have huge lopsided crops now but the other girls are just medium as they usually are! ive certainly noticed how much more they are all starting to eat so hopefully this means the others are on their way to laying. 2 of them have spent ages in the nest boxes today but without any results and i have a new egg yesteday from someone - dont know who yet but it had a matt surface and was rough.  (i know it wasnt from either of the 2 in the nest boxes as they have laid last year and i didnt recognise egg)

Hens in lay will naturally eat more when laying in order to produce eggs

when i was little and my mum had hens i always thought a bulging crop was an egg getting ready to be passed down and out of the hens belly button, i used to pick them up ever so gently so as not to squash the egg
