Double dig and remove everything that is not soil !!

Black plastic or cardboard/carpet mulch may weaken it .

Sowing turnips positively discourages it (said a posting only a few days ago)

I spent two hours yesterday digging a friends allotment (covered in black plastic), managed to get through a whopping 3 foot by 2 foot patch removing every thing that was not soil in preparation for my plug sprouts and broccoli.  I can only hope I get through the digging before the stuff arrives!!  Also got sunburnt, so the factor 50 is coming out today!

:?:  :?: sounds as if the black plastic hasn't been down long enough.

 Why not leave it in place?  Simply cut a cross for each brassica plant & plant through the plastic.

'Cos I hate to tell you but 2' x 3' is enough for one, maybe two, plants :!:
