Help - my garlic has gone yellow
« on: January 22, 2010, 22:02 »
I planted lots of garlic late Oct early Nov and it seemed to be doing really well. The soil had a fair bit of home produced compost added before I planted and a couple of handfulls of chicken pellets for good measure. However the snow we had recently covered it all and now the snow has melted a lot of the garlic have yellow ends to the leaves. I have thrown a bit of chicken pellets into the bed in case it is lack of nitrogen. Is the yellowness just caused by the long covering of snow or is it a problem with the soil?; Any ideas - anyone else with slightly yellow garlic after the snow?

Not to worry. The snow cover has simply temporarily blanched the growing tips. Now that there's more light they'll green up again. Don't overdo the pellets as this isn't a soil deficiency.

My shallots were the same, but they will green up in the next few weeks.
Seek not to know all the answers, just to understand the questions.
