Chickens with bare bottoms!
« on: January 17, 2010, 11:43 »
Should I be worried?  Two of my chickens seem to have lost their 'bottom' feathers and are looking distinctly bald around that area.  They are Black Rocks.  I am not sure if this is just due to the wet weather, though they have a lovely snug house and nest box.  Could anyone advise me please?

Hi Gardening Granny, To confirm which bottom area are you meaning, the (cloaca)vent or under carriage.

If the vent is featherless, they may be suffering from worms, mites or feather mites..

If the under carriage or fluff area, they may be broody and have shed thier feathers for this purpose.
