nutritionally mash n pellets r the same. you can crush pellets to make mash if you needed to. so basically, they need constant supply of layers mash/pellets. Mixed corn is a treat, feed it like a special treat, dont mix it in WITH the layers feed.

does that help .

they are actually gathered outside my bedroom  ::) ( resultof me throwing a uneaten cornish pasty out the window, they wait in hope of another one) the cats have to run the gaunlet through the chickens as they use my window to get in and out, hence the muddy window and side of the house :D

oh gosh i think i must be really spoiling my lot lol

I take them a bowl of either boiled greens chopped (at the moment using up all my duff sprout plants) or chopped lettuce or any last nights leftover vegs/rice or pasta about 11am (after they've laid)  then about 2pm I let them out to free range if the weather is good, if not they get a cabbage or something hung up to exercise them, then they get corn before bed too .. and pellets are available to them all the time.

I must be doing something right though cos they all are very sociable and are easily handled and are laying everyday, in fact I am inundated with eggs, I was expecting a slow down in winter but it hasn't happened yet

I gave my silkie chicks the end of a butternut squash last evening and they spent hours pecking at it and having a smashing time!  This morning it was reduced to paper thin skin!  ::)  Happy chook chicks!
