Frozen onions
« on: January 10, 2010, 15:49 »
I thought to make a lovely brocolli and blue stilton cheese soup.  So I walked and slid to the allotment to pick up some onions - didn't both with leeks as they were well and truely stuck in the ground.  I brought home some onions (they had been hanging in my shed), and started peeling them, when hey presto - they were frozen, although not solid thankfully.  I've just made my soup - and mmmmm, really put the warmth into my bones and stomach :D

:D :D  Few people realize that the Genus Stinkus Delicioso can be frozen and used for cooking in that state. Unfortunately it doesn't hold up well for fresh eating after freezing.

Hope they were your last onions Babstreefern as once onions have been frozen they rot pretty quickly. Best thing to do if you have any left is to cook them ASAP and then freeze them.

I don't cook mine prior to freezing. Just cut them up, put them in several zip bags so they don't stink the whole freezer.

I tried chopping them up and putting them in the freezer last year but didn't seal the bags properly. The freezer stunk of onions for ages and the boss wasn't over impressed.
