does anyone know where i can purchase chickens in/near to the west midlands? i'm after egg laying breeds at point of lay.  any ideas?

All of these are a little way from you but all within an afternoon's drive:

Melton Mowbray 'Fur & Feather' market. Every Tuesday morning. Great fun. You will get some bargains in fruit, veg and meat as well and there is an antiques market on the same site.
Otherwise, you could try the Domestic Fowl Trust in Honeybourne (Near Evesham) Tend to be a bit pricey but you will get some lovely breeds.

We bought some lovely Warrens from Longnor in Derbyshire last autumn. Can find out more if you are interested.

Otherwise look in the back of Garden and Smallholding or the other similar sort of magazines.

If you look at the bottom of someones post yo will see some buttons on the left hand side.  one of them says

pm

If you click on this it will give you a screen to send a "personal message" to that person, only easy when you know how
