Christmas Stockings for Chooks
« on: December 09, 2009, 13:43 »
Hi, would appreciate some advice please.  My 6 year old has decided that Santa will be visiting the Chooks on Christmas Eve with a stocking for each of them.  Whilst i have an idea of what to put in the stocking (Corn - meal worms) not sure what i should use as the actual stocking as not sure if a fabric/wool one would be safe for them.  Any ideas?  Thank you ???

I think I would tell her that Santa is so clever he knows chickens don't have socks or stockings but also that he knows she is a kind little girl who would pass special treats on to them if he put them in her stocking  - and put a small bag of corn in her stocking (not sure mealworms would go down well! ???) that way you may avoid making a tradition of having to go out at midnight to hang a stocking for the chooks for the next 10 years :D :D :D

That sounds like a fab idea - we already have 3 doggie stockings and a bunny one to contend with so 7 chook stockings would give me a real headache lol.  :)
1 lovely hubby, 3 dogs, a bunny and 7 ex batts and a shiny new lottie!  (so far)

I think that is a lovely idea - although I agree you will be doing it for years to come!  Why not let them all have one stocking between them and keep it indoors.  You could tell your daughter it has to stay indoors as otherwise other animals might take it, and she gets to open it in the morning and show them their presents?

If she wont let up, get some babies socks from market / charity shop, felt tip their names on em and pop a couple of food bags (tied up with that Christmas ribbon stuff - that stuff tht goes curly when you drag  knife along it :) ) of nice treats like bits of corn etc..... have fun... oh and dont get any more chickens  this plan might not work if you had 20 odd cuz think you might want to shove ickle Christmas stocking up....well you get the idea  :D

I don't think I'd better try that idea, I'd need 200 little stockings!
