Pickled cabbage
« on: November 22, 2009, 22:29 »
I can't believe people buy this.
I did some red pickled cabbage in the week following Vals recipe.
Using two cabbages I got 16 jars of the stuff.
It was so easy and so cheap I'll never buy it again. :D

Thanks Val

One question. Why salt the cabbage to dry it out only to wet it again later???
I still did it, just curious .
I may take my time.....but i'll get there in the end.

The salt takes the water out of the cabbage, which you replace with vinegar.
Unless Val's recipe is different to mine, of course?

I'm going to be making some of this.  Grew red cabbages especially for it!

Tried some red cabbage tonight with our bubble and and squeak from the Sunday Roast leftovers, date on the lid 2007. Gone in the bin, use it up quick or you'll have to  recycle it as we will.

Unfortunatly I brought my red cabbage as I have to be really picky about what I grow as I havn't much room. Having said that 90p each It's still cheaper than buying it already done.

Wighty according to Vals book, The jars will be fine untill at least mid Febuary, plus most will be given away.
