I like Grannie's turkey too!!   :D :D  and we eat a lot of chicken, and I eat vegetarian meals sometimes, but still a carnivore I'm afraid!!

It does seem like some people make up their own rules at times though!  Like the lady I worked with once who said she was veggie, but ate fish and chicken.  But it's still meat I said, ah but it doesn't have red blood in it!  (?????Of course chicken has red blood, stupid woman!!!!)

I used to be vegetarian as did my youngest son. We ate no meat, fish or poultry. We would eat cheese (so long as it wasn't made with animal rennet), eggs and milk. Going out for meals with me used to be horrendous for the waiters as when it came to desserts I always used to ask if they had gelatine in them (most ready made desserts do have) in the end at one restaurant the waiter bought me all the packets out so I could read the ingredients - ended up having fresh fruit salad
Sorry Grannie if I was one of those veggies that made your life awkward

Missed bacon sandwiches though so changed back and now have a good butcher with quality meat in the village and a local turkey grower a couple of miles down the road whose turkeys I can wholeheartedly recommend - and the name of this grower?? Grannie Annie of course  :D
Staffies are softer than you think.

It's odd how hard it's supposed to be to cook for vegetarians and vegans. I think that a lot of improvements have been made in off the shelf products for both categories.

I'm almost vegan (it's the odd cup of tea with milk in and butter on crumpets when out that really breaks the completeness) and have an older book on the shelf that lists where to get your protein and vitamins from. After some practice it's very easy.

If you think back to old practice for carnivores - roast chicken on Sunday, cold chicken on Monday and bones into the stock pot with vegetables, lentil and pearl barley you have a clue. So you don't use the bones in your stock making but you do keep the lentils and pearl barley as protein for a perfectly good thick, filling soup. Or you can do as one of the grannies used to insist and have butter beans instead of the lentils/pearl barley. It's really lateral thinking.  Use beans, pulses, nuts as protein. I happen to love seaweed to eat which is good for B12! And if you can stand Marmite that helps.  ;)

Not to be eaten when you have polite company

It is less "forceful" if you don't eat bread with it!

I was vegan for a while so no meat, fish or dairy but I did still eat honey so technically not proper vegan. I started to feel very run down and although I was taking vitamin supplements and eating lots of pulses etc couldnt get my energy levels up. The doctor explained that some people dont absorb supplements as well as others and need the raw ingredients for their bodies to work properly so I went back to eating meat and dairy again. I was deficient in B12 and iron on testing.

For me there was no middle ground of vegetarian as if you are eating dairy or eggs you are indirectly causing the death of animals with male dairy calves and cock birds so it was all or nothing for me. I'm now just happy eating locally raised meat and milk so I know where its from and how it has lived (and where the male calves go) and eggs from my girls and my own cock birds as meat. I must admit I feel far healthier eating meat and dairy than not and am no longer deficient in B12 or iron.

 :)
