Laying on the droppings board
« on: November 01, 2009, 14:14 »
Hi,

I have 6 hens which have started laying over the last few weeks. The nest box attached to the coop has 3 nests and all 3  are used by the chooks . However,  this week, there were 2 eggs on the droppings tray in the main part of the coop. Does anyone know why the chooks would do this? Is it because the 3 nest nestbox isnt big enough?

it doesnt really help, (but if it's any consolation)

I have six hybrid hens,
who when faced with 2 nest boxes all laid in one of them,
and when faced with 4 nest boxes only ever lay in 2 of them  :wacko:

Contrary beasts  ::)

If they've just started laying they've probably just been ''caught short'' ! ::)
When they learn to ''hold it'' they'll be queuing up to use just one of the nest boxes. Why they all prefer a particular one, I don't know.  :D Mine have two comfy boxes and only ever use one!
