Gooseberry Bushes
« on: October 31, 2009, 11:19 »
Hi  All       I`ve  just been given  10    bushes,  i`ve   pruned  them back   and lifted them into   pots ,   as they  need to be moved to another  plot.   I was thinking of planting  them in the spring  along  a fence   and  train them  into a  fan   shape.   How far  apart will they need to be planted.   and will they handle a lot of wind  as my plot gets a lot.    any  advice please   Michael

My RHS book suggests planting 5ft apart and sheltering them from strong winds, especially during flowering in April

10 bushes is a lot, got 60 lb of fruit off my 3 and as indicated, you'll need a lot of space.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
