How long to leave in the incubator after hatching :)
« on: October 22, 2009, 21:52 »
I have quails due to hatch on Sunday....... One hatched last night and lots have pipped.....but nothing else (12 hours on)

But how long is safe for them to stay in the bator once hatched..... I have googled it and it says from 24 hours to three days :)  But how will I know if its too long...

I am being very very good and not opening the bator at all..... to give them all the best chance :)

I always seem to get one really early chick..... Its a brinsea still air polyhatch... would a hot spot be causing this....
I love Pekins, Polands and Seramas :) and eggs!!!

Oooh Chookie, no one answered your question!  How are the chicks?  I've never hatched quails, but my chicks usually stay in the incy for up to 24 hours.  Once they are dry and fluffed up they are okay to transfer to the brooder, but someone on here the other week said not to open the incy too often as you're letting all the warmth out.

Thanks you two  :tongue2:

I left them in for 24 hours and then had to take them out...... The humidity dropped but soon picked up again.....  However none of the others were showing any signs of going further than pipping :( :(

Wont say how it happened but I do now have 19 out of the 26 chicks running around.   ;)

Out of the 26, three were candled clear..... three were early death in shell...... and one was just not right  and died shortly after hatching :( :(

But not a bad result to be honest :) :)  But I do wish they would get together and decide when to hatch together ::)

I remember when I used to keep quails, I had a little square poly hatch incubator and filled it with quail eggs (pain turn the eggs every day, about 100 eggs). Nearly all of them hatched and we had to stand around the incubator with bowls and scoop up the chicks into them bfore they escaped when I lifted the lid  :D

Ha ha.... Michelle..... I have the polyhatch too :)  But I hatch them out in a hovabator as the moving floor that turns the eggs would mash the chicks..... :(  Cant turn the motor off as the other eggs in there would suffer :)

They move too quickly for me to catch ::)

TMG  Thanks, I was pleased with it.... its been the best one so far :)  I just wish they could synchronise themselves :)

Have just put another 50 eggs in..... from another quail keeper.... see if they act any differently :)
