When did you all take out your runner beans
« on: October 19, 2009, 14:12 »
we took ours at yesterday not because they had stopped oh no

But Because 102lb of beans and we had really had enough

I thought they should have finished ages ago, no one on our site has any left

Dont get me wrong runners are great for the first 50lb but I am turning a funny green shade

Ours are growing great guns too there are still flowers!

I am going to leave mine in until the remaining beans have started to dry (to keep for next year) then i just mulch the whole plants back into the ground.

ours still in place but freezer full so I just pull off the bigger.older/yellowy pods and throw on compost heap and take a handful of younger ones each day for the table. Really tender they are as well.

I'm a bit further north and higher.  I stopped picking when I couldnt stand to look @ another bean and the freezers were absolutely full.  Couldnt give them away either. So I left them thinking they could grow beans to be seeds for next years crop.  I think I might have grown enough seed beans for the entire village!  Ooops.

I pulled mine out when all the high winds were forcast a couple of w/e s ago. A bad mistake as the winds weren't so bad and my neighbours are still picking :(

I can never have enough runner beans, they are my favs :)

Not yet! Still getting the odd bean off them plus I'm dead lazy (easier to see what you're doing when the leaves have died off a bit)  8)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Still up there, waiting for the pods to dry out so can save some seed.  Don't know what I'll do about the ones that clambered in to next doors apple tree, was really strange seeing bean dangling amongst the cookers  :D

I'm still picking.  Got a freezer full but while they keep going so will I.  Had some tonight with our sausage casserole. As long as they produce will keep picking.  I was very late though this year at getting some to grow.

Mine are still in but that is mainly because I haven't had the time to take them out.  I had 2 or 3 when I was there earlier to eat raw as I walked around the plot but they are on their last legs.

Sunday - kept a few for next year though. There's loads still producing on adjacent plots though.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Still growing a few pods, still making RB chutney having stuffed the freezer and fed the neighbours! Corgette plants still not frost bitten and hoping for some late fruits.

Mine have finished and are drying out. The wind across the plot whips all the moisture out of the soil this time of year so things grind to halt, can't complain thought got plenty of beans in the freezer. Next year I reckon I could plant half the number and still have beans left over.
