Ripening Pumpkins
« on: October 20, 2009, 09:23 »
Hi there folks, just a quick question for you.
My Pumpkins are still not quite ripe and was just wondering if I am best to cut the stems and take them indoors to ripen infront of a window, now what with frosts being immenent?
The biggest of the two pumpkins looks not too far off now, it's very orange. However my other pumpkin is still very yellow.

What da ya think?

I would move them in before hard frosts start. So no great rush yet.

Yup, cut them with a t bar of stem and bring them in to finish off ripening. Getting too cold at night for them now IMO:(

If the stem has vertical cracks in it, then the pumpkin is ripe enough to cut and keep. If it hasn't got a dried out stem, you might find it doesn't last so well.

I'm not far from you and have brought mine indoors to toughen up the skin -- like Mumofstog says, too cold at night out them for them.
