Just planted two gooseberries this morning (variety unknown- rescue from garden centre),
dug deep enough hole so that they sit on well-rotted compost at the bottom, part fill, sprinkle some bonemeal around, water in, then complete back-fill.  March next year will give a hard prune down each stem approx 4 inches from main stem, to an outward facing bud.
I'm queen of my own compost heap and I'm getting used to the smell.

I've just bought a gooseberry bush/twig from poundland, and also a redcurrant bush/twig from the same shop. Have no idea what variety they are.
At the price I'm not holding out for much success, but nothing ventured nothing gained I guess!
I'm planning on putting them in this week with a load of duck muck and then keeping my fingers crossed!

Just a little story about how i came to buy the leveller.

I actually went to buy a Hinnonmaki Yellow because of the good resitance to american go, even tho i really wanted a leveller. The garden centre i went to actually had about 50 different types. Anyway i  asked the old boy about the different types, and when i said i was going to buy the leveller a big grin came on his face. His face said it all. He said they where the sweetest and tastiest and nice and big and his favourite.

Anyone else growing leveller's?
