Hunger with moult
« on: October 16, 2009, 16:34 »
My first lot of girls are having their first moult. Feathers coming out and new ones growing, hand in hand. Anyway, my question was, do they get incredibly hungry while moulting? I've been putting Poultry Spice in their layers and Poultry Booster in their water. They also have soaked fish cat biscuits with garlic powder added about every third day. Plus, some greens about every third day. They also have corn, late afternoon, early evening. Their layers are there whenever they want them. It's just they are eating like donkeys  :ohmy:. I know chickens like their food, but I think they'd have my eyeballs given the chance  :D Oh and they were wormed about three weeks ago  :)
8 chickens, 5 cats, 2 guinea pigs and 1 other half.

All I can tell you is that it uses up allot of energy to grow new feathers.  You are doing the correct thing by giving supplemental food.

Give them some fish flavoured cat meat as well. It takes it out of them when they're moulting so yes they will eat a lot.

Thanks  :D It's my first experience of the moult. Good to know I'm doing things right. Having five cats, I think I can lay my hands on some fishy cat meat  :D

Trust you Stuart  ::) :lol:
