Saving Spagetti squash seeds.
« on: October 18, 2009, 14:25 »
I had some limited success with my spagetti squash this year and am keen to have another go next year. I have saved some of the seed from on of the squash and wondering if htey are likely to breed true.

They were grown in a small garden and there were courgettes nearby and I understand that crosspollionation can be a problem. I did tend to hand pollinate them though.

What do you recon? Should I give them a go or buy some more seeds?
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

You're just waiting for DD to get out his photo of cross-pollinated squash, aren't you Kate  :D

I'd get some fresh seed to use alongside the old seed if I was being on the safe side
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Lets see if this works

Does it?

Good excuse for a repeat post.

This is the result of the best seeds I saved from a trailing marrow. First year cross.
I admit that with beans such radical cross pollination is not as likely, but over the last few years I've had quite a few very different strains thrown up.

Ooops it didn't

They look like fun! Think I will grow my seeds just to see what happens. Half and half courgette and spagetti squash.
