strawberrie shoots question

my neighbour has some strawberry plants that have loads of shoots/runners coming off them, she has said i can take some for myself. what do i do ie the shoots are maybe 18" long with a small plant on it at the moment there are no roots just little nodules that are going to become roots.
how far from the main play do i cut these, once cut what next lol

I wouldn't cut them yet.

Either let them root into the ground or peg them into a pot.

Once rooted you can cut the entire runner off.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
