How tall do mangetout grow?
Do I need to put stakes?
Any advice would be appreciated...

Exactly the same as peas.  I've just put my pea sticks in for both peas and mangetout .  If you grew them from seed it should give an idea of height on the packet.

i am growing a sugar snap variety and i bought them loose so no seed packet but according to my gardening book they get about 5 foot tall but some of the other only get 3 foot so either way they are going to need some support

i'm growing mangetout aswell i bet they are delicous fresh only ever had shop bought ones! can't wait!!

I've grown mange tout for the last 5 or 6 years in the garden.  I would staple some netting onto the fence which was about 6 foot high and grow them up that.  They would normally grow to about 4 or 5 foot high.  This is influenced by the soil and a well fertilised soil (manure and compost) will encourage more growth.  

I have now got an allotment plot and I've sown the mange tout last night, along with the french beans and borlotti.  I pushed some 6ft bamboo canes into the ground and I'll ties some wire between then to provide support.
