Hi Guys

At one end of my plot is a wire netting fence and beyond that a bare patch of land. Naturally the nasty weeds push through the fence and I have left about six feet unculitvated because of this.

Now, rathere than waste valuable space I would like to put a fan trained plum against the fence - what do you suggest I cover the fence with. I suspect plastic would deteriorate quickly as well as looking pretty awful.

I'd be tempted to spray with weed killer to get on top of the spare land on the other side of the fence

Yes, definitely.  And keep it as a netting fence: that way you can treat the foot of the fence, and overlap a foot or so on the other side.

Its a real pain when you've got lots of weeds next door. Know all about it

A strip of the fine green netting sold to shade greenhouses should stop the weeds coming through but dig it in at the bottom. Probably still reach over and zap a barrier strip with roundup.
