I am looking for ex battery hens but not fully agreed with the rest of the family.  We might also consider buff orpingtons, light sussex bantom and white silkies. 

Could you tell me if these are quiet chickens?
Which chicken would you recommend?
What age are pol chickens?

I have looked at the other pages and have seen a couple of local suppliers.

Hi newhen, and welcome. You will find all hens can be noisy no matter what the breed. Silkies have a reputation for being noisy, but others will say theirs aren't so its pot luck. Myself, i found Brahmas my quietest and hybrids the loudest. And you always end up with one thats gobby
      Think very carefully before deciding on ex batts for first birds, they are a very deserving cause but take a lot of extra care. This can also mean extra vet bills and you have to be prepared for them. Every egg they lay is a bonus.
      After all that enjoy them whatever you have, we all love ours and do anything for them

Mine arnt noisy as such they just like to announce they have laid an egg or if theres a cat in the garden, apart from that i dont hear them atall.   My neighbour even forgets i have them cause there quiet girls.   Nickyx
