Where do I put my overwintering peas?
« on: September 06, 2009, 20:38 »
Evenin' all  :)  Ready for a newbie question?

I'm going to try some douce provence peas this winter and I'm getting a bit confused about advice not to put the same thing somewhere twice.    So, do I put them in the bed which was my beans/sweetcorn/squash bed this year or do I put them in the bed I'm planning for peas and sweetcorn next year?    Or, in terms of crop rotation, does it not really matter?   ::)

Thanks
Lisa

If it was me, Id put them in the same legume bed as this year and, when they are done, plant with something else not of the legume family

I would say treat them as the first of next years peas. If you grow them in the bed where peas grew this year you stand a risk of carrying over a disease or pest, for instance mildew or foot rot.

I agree with Salmo. You have to draw a line somewhere and it now seems to me as if the year is over & it's time to start again.

The spring cabbage and caulis won't go in the same spot, nor will the onions. Why single out the poor old peas?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
