When can you pick Aubergines
« on: August 31, 2009, 09:32 »
I have grown for the first year, some Aubergines. The trouble is I dont know the best time to harvest them! I have got two on one plant, one is huge and beginning to lighten in colour, have I left it too long? If so can I still use it? The other is slightly smaller and a lovely purple colour.  Should I just pick them both?

I was given an aubergine plant and thought to have a go - my one and only baby  is the size between a golf ball and tennis ball, and is green ???.  I've heard you harvest between August/September, so I would leave it a spell. 8)

Pick them when they are shiny, will probably not be as big as the imported ones in the shops, but if you let them go over to a dull-ish skin they will start to get bitter.
