Pink stringy poo
« on: September 21, 2009, 11:23 »
Hi I was wondering if any body has any advice for me? I have a few girls and have recently noticed that every morning under their perch there is some pink stringy poo! I checked on the poo guide that Aunt Sally has put up and it falls under the "normal" (contains some intestinal lining) category. However, this is happening every morning and I'm a bit worried. I have traeted them all with coxoid and have wormed with liquid verm-ex. All my girls seem in very good general health otherwise (they seem happy and are always happy to see me - they come running as soon as they see me walk down the garden!)... I have a golden silkie (2years old) with her last brood which contains 5 silkies and silkie crosses (about 20weeks old I think). I also have a lavender aracauna (about 1year old). I feed them on organic layers pellets, mixed in with mixed grain. They also get fed with regular treats of veg peelings and veg leaves from my vegetable garden. They dont free range but their pen is about 15 ft square so they have plenty of room. The reason I used verm-x is because this is what all they local places are stocking so it was the only thing that was readily available. I did ask for flubenvet initially but was told that verm-x was as good.

Any ideas??!?

how long has it been happening for?

You seem to me to have all bases covered so thumbs up. Mine though have never had pink poo. A photo may help.

Hi warbz. Welcome.  :)

Generally, verm-x isn't considered as potent as flubenvet because it doesn't treat gape-worm and I think can be a bit hit or miss, being herbal. Havign said that, I've never used it nor seen any test results. :)

I wonder if the intestinal lining is due to the way the verm-x works. I think it causes the lining to be shed, taking any worms with it. Just a guess, but it seems to make sense to me  ::)

I hoe it's nothing to worry about.

I noticed this was happening at the beginning of August but haven't managed to work out which chook is doing it (spent quite a lot of time down there willing my girls to do their "business" but to no avail!). But they are all full of beans and seem to be in good health otherwise.

Thanks for your advice guys!

I thought[ may be wrong though] that verm-ex helped prevent worms, but doesn't do anything if they already have them.
We have 17 chickens, 3 quail, 2 dogs, 3 cats and that's enough (for this week)

On a serious note this pink stringy poo could it be worms? I have no experience of worms in the first person and just wondering.

No beetroot or elderberries I'm afraid.  I'm not sure that its the way that verm-ex works that is causing the pink poo as I started treating with verm-ex after I noticed that it was happening (I checked on verm-ex and apparently it gets rid of worms). I am well and truly flummoxed!!
