chicken manure
« on: August 18, 2009, 13:02 »
I have got chicken pellets and horse manure to use in preporation for next season and i am wondering if i should use chicken pellets in the same way as horse manure.

I know that some veg (ie Parsnips) go too wild with Manure so i get abit confused on what to use it on.  I have looked into it in books, but it doesnt realy give too much advice?

has anybody got any experience with chicken pellets

Any help would be much appreciated

Ta :D

horse manure is a good all-round 'fertilizer' for most crops. chicken pellets, by their very cost and much higher percentage of nitrogen, are best used as a sprinkle around higher nitrogen needing crops like corn, toms, the brassicas. Root crops tend to need some horse manure worked into the soil but they don't need chicken pellets; some manure tea or comfrey tea are better nutrient sources for them.
