Last bit of info for you! Service berries have a much more noticeable ring of hard dried leaf  on the end and they don't grow in bunches quite as dogwood do. Also the amalanchier/service berries don't come 'til a little later on.  The leaves on the dogwood tend to be a bit bigger and tougher looking. The dogwood berries taste terrible, the service tree berries are quite sweet, despite the little thorny bit on the end! I'll shutup now and finish watching the allotment sitcom on BBC2. Hilary

I have the first one on our allotment site in the hedge and am totally unsure as well, however was wondering if it was edible.  I was thinking of taking it to the local garden centres to see if they could identify but still not sure if I would trust someone I didn't know.

What we need is an "old country hand" who used to harvest these berries so we can be sure.

If I find out I will post a reply for you all.

TBH I doubt if you will find anyone who harvested them as they are not edible    Believe me (I'm probably old enough to count as an old country hand BTW :D)

Hi

Thank you for confirming this, I have a huge fobia about being sick so think I will steer clear of them.
