Any reason why i can't eat wild plums??
« on: August 16, 2009, 19:45 »
Hi, I have a wild plum in my garden. Quite small fruit but taste just like the sweetest plum you have ever tasted. Can i eat them or will they kill me? I am hoping i can eat them as i have already eaten half a pound!!

Thanks

I had small, yellow plum-like fruits for the first time this year because the pigeon numbers have dropped and they usually  :)eat the teeny berries. Looked them up and they're called cherry plums and are perfectly edible ......and they made fantastic jam!

This year has been great for wild plums. We have bottled lots and discovered some wild yellow ones that taste of coconut.
Why would you not be able to eat them? The ones you need to watch out for are those tasteless purple hard lumps they try try to get you to buy in the supermarket in December or March!
