I've never grown Polestar, but most runners are string free these days. Have you been leaving them growing until they are too mature, with the seeds beginning to swell inside? I grow the peach flowered Celebration & red flowered Red Rum & find them tasty & stringless.

I find if uyou cut them lengthways or best of all use a bean slicer even the stringiest of beans seem good.

That's funny i tried pink Celebration side by side with a white runner, and haven't been impressed with the pink one. Far greater yield on the white one..........will look at variety in a mo :)

recommended white variety...White Lady

Am growing Scarlet Emperor, which have grown well, but find the beans go hard and stringy very quickly, with a sort of parchment skin inside. (Good taste though  :) )
Anyone know them and suggest something a little more tender?

The best I've found so far for yield, flavour and remaining stringless are the white flowered Desiree .

I bought a packet from T&M back in 2005 not sure if they still have them but I would certainly recommend them. I found all the red flowered went stringy very quickly.

Thanks. TM still do them, but wont send them to France (long live the EU !!)
I bought mine from Tuckers, who will send, but they dont do Desiree.
Over here theyre known as Spanish beans, and are grown as a flowering creeper  ::)
Have given some to neighbours, who say thankyou nicely, but quite obviously arent convinced

I've grown Armstrong this year and am impressed with the tenderness, and the taste is not bitter like you sometimes get. Thanks Pippa Greenwood!
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.
