I was out hoeing the ridiculous amount of horsetail from my plot yesterday. Its grown so much recently and I had not kept on top of it so it is rampant.

When hoeing a lot of the green prongy bits (can't really call them leaves as such) fall off on to the soil. So my question is (and wincing at what the answer might be) is will these prongy bits root or is it only root bits, that root .
 I'm sure that makes sense if you read it twice !!!

yes, those prongy bits will all make new weeds, you really need to collect all the bits that fall of, it's a pain I know

My plot was also covered in horsetail when I took it on so I'm digging down to at least 2 spade depths as I do each bed, however under my fruit trees where I can't dig I've been hoeing and removing as much of the top growth as possible...of course some small frondy bits do get missed and they just seem to shrivel and die on the surface of the soil (during dry spells at least) not sure what would happen if we had prolonged rain)

I will eventually cover the area under the trees with weed supressant but no money in the pot at the moment.
