Potato's for Christmas?
« on: August 10, 2009, 06:55 »
I seem to remember reading on here that folks can plant new potatos now to have ready for Christmas?

I'd like to give it a go, but what type of pots are best and do I need to do anything 'special' or are they grown as normal??

Do a forum search on "Christmas Potatoes", (not "potato's"), you'll find plenty of reading matter!!!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

i have been looking for them everywhere, buti know for certain that the idea has caught on strongly and that suttons seeds have completely sold out till 2011 and Thompson and Morgon do not sell these types of potatoes.

I planted mine up today - I hope they'll have enough growing time before the first frosts to give me a nice Christmas harvest....

I don't think you can - Iain@JBa posted something some time ago if I recall correctly to the effect that such spuds needed a rest period of about 60 (?) days before going back into the soil.  So if you've just dug them up it's too late.

As previously suggested, a search under Christmas Potatoes (or possibly spuds) with Iain's user name will narrow this down to find the correct post and information.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
