Was pushing grandson home in his pushchair yesterday when I noticed that all the verges around the Tescos site on Clifton Moor, York, are covered in a low spreading fruiting shrub  with masses and masses of fruits looking a bit like raspberry but strawberry colour. Growth was not  like standard raspberry canes ans the plants were spreading and low. Leaves seemed to be paired. All fruits ripe at the same time. tasted some. they were very sweet and juicy but flavour was far less than "normal" raspberries/
What are they?
So if anyone wants some free fruit - speed off to Clifton Moor and look for the verges and banks around the Tesco service station entry and along the verges of Clifton Moorgate.

Just found the same 'shrubs' growing near our local co-op shop!!!! I think these ones are salmonberries though....the leaf is larger than the cloudberry and have 3 lobes.....not as tasty as raspberries.......but free!!!!!!
