We have 7 girls and this morning we had 7 eggs as usual. Big ones with good shells. A few hours later I went out to find one of them pecking/looking at what looked like a small egg - white and yolk- with no shell. I washed it away, and they all seem happy and behaving as normal. I've never seen or heard of it happening before. Is this a sign to do something?

make sure they have access to oyster shell all the time.

Sometimes, especially when they are young, things get a bit confused and this can happen without meaning anything.

Hi Chris, I had one hen, who in the early days used to lay one large egg and one tiny one - EVERY DAY!!! Most of the time the large one was good and the small one soft - however one day they both were hard shelled!!! She was only just starting out and grew out of it!! Not had a soft shell from any for a while now. About a month ago - the 3 that are laying had all laid and were out in the garden and something startled them.....a while later all 3 had laid soft eggs on the lawn!!!!!! Same thing happened with one today after being alarmed by a toad!!! All pretty normal stuff!!!!

Yep, us toads can be pretty alarming at times lol
