Last year I planted 12 plants a mixture of green and purple on my allotment ,I followed the rules and left the spears alone and cut the fern back at the end of the season. This year nothing at all except one small fern  , I have looked and every plant is there fit and plump but no growth, the funny thing is I split the purchase with a mate and exactly the same thing has happened to his. Does any one know what happened

Last October i planted 20x one year old crowns,i expected to see some growth this April,however nothing surfaced.In June i had a look to see what had happened and the crowns still looked okay.I'm baffled.

Not sure what's happened there mate.

I've planted 20 1st year crowns and they've all grown ferns and are starting to yellow off.

Did you put any fertilizer down in early Spring not that it should make that much difference?

Anybody else that is more experianced with Aspagus?

I don't have an exact answer for you other than asparagus is notorious for sulking. I had a few do exactly the same - roots are healthy looking but no top growth. I simply added some compost early in the season and watered them now and then. I also made sure the roots were covered with soil as sometimes they seem to pop above the surface a bit. And wait. Next year they'll have established their roots and will be up. Patience is the key word.
