why oh why?

Do my chickens and ducks want dirty water?
I give them fresh water each morning and they have a bit of a drink from the containers and leave the rest.
When I let them out to free range after I get home from work they spend most of the evening drinking muddy water and they get very excited at this. The ducks particularly.
Is this ok?

Same as my cats, they prefer the dirty water from the indentations in the man hole cover.

I don't suppose for one minute they'll come to any harm, can't recall the last time I saw a duck pond full of clean tap water.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

The only thing to watch for is, because they're in a relatively closed environment and the puddles are presumably on the same ground they poo on, you need to be careful about worms and stuff.

But teh ducks will drill down into any bit of mud  ::)
