Iv'e been norty
« on: July 23, 2009, 23:19 »
Yesterday I went & got 6 wheaten maran hatching eggs,  as one of my girls keeps going broody.  She sat on them for all of last night, then today, when I got home from work at 2.30pm she had escaped & was back in the nest box.  I removed her & put her back on the eggs.....will they still be ok or will they now be duff???????????????
HELP!!!!!!

Mumsy do you know how long she had been off the eggs?
Staffies are softer than you think.

When we put fertile eggs under our Maran, we used a different hen house, etc.  My top hen actually went to her and coaxed her to the old nest box! She went to the nest box with the other hens.  So we moved her eggs there, and she has been fine since.   So far, so good.  Two weeks to go.
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!

I didn't trust my broody, so I put her in a special little broody house I had made all ready about a year ago!! She can be locked in all day with her own corn and water and although she can get off the nest whenever she wants to always seems to be pancaked across it when I look. She must get up sometimes as the water and corn get taken. I let her out in the evening with the others at corn and cabbage time, but she is back in within 20 minutes. We are 10 days into incubation.
3 o'clock is both too early and too late to start anything - Sartre said so.

Sorry,  I have been so busy this weekend.

I popped her on the eggs on wednesday afternoon, in her own little house, with food & water & a little run. When I got home from work on Thursday at 2.30, she had escaped & got back to the main coop & was in the nest box there.  I have no idea how long she had been off.  Anyway, I put her back & made it more secure.  Since then, she hasn't moved from the eggs.

fingers crossed for you, hopefully everything will be ok. She probably hadn't been off them very long and just got a bit disorientated with it being a new coop. She will know if there is any hope  :D

Thanks Joyfull,  It may have put her a couple of days behind, which could be when I am away for a weekend :(   I have my fingers crossed though.
