Hi, my broads that i sowed  last year are all a lot shorter than everyone elses, they also have a brown later on the lower stems, is there somthing i need to do , like trim of bits etc. :?
When the sun shines i dig,
When rain pours i dig
When the wind blows---I SURF.

do broads and peas recover from frost damage generally, as the plants otherwise look healthy?

What support are you giving the peas?Hight of broard beans may be due to variety.I accidently bought variety The Sutton which only grows to one foot but since it apparantly grows well I will try it and may have found something that I otherwise have grown.

I grew some Sutton last year Annie, and the pods aren't as long as some varieties, but OH was very pleased with his broad beans.  I also didn't get ANY blackfly, but don't know if that was because they are dwarf and the blackfly flew over the top or was I just lucky?????

But athough I gave them little canes, they didn't need staking and beign short were good in the windy conditions we have here in Lincs

Spring.  I'm not really into autumn planting, as its usually very wet over here.  I was going to try planting stuff in the polytunnel over the winter to see what grows and what doesn't, but didn't get round to it.  It still gets very cold in there.must try this autumn though, because if I don't try, then I won't know will I?

The only thing I had in my polytunnel in hte winter was my washing!  aTleast when it rained I didn't have to keep rushing out and bringing the washing in, it just stayed in there until it was dry!!!! lol
