silvana,sylvana berries?
« on: July 11, 2009, 13:03 »
hi all,
have just been to a neighbours house for the fisrt time(i want a garden like this).
they have a vast crop of large black berries(they must be inch and a half long) but they look like and pull off like raspberries(so she said).the lady told me they were silvana berries(however no offers to try one).
does anyone else grow these?i have never heard of them before let alone seen them.

I think they might be the Sylvan Blackberry, which is a cross between Boysenberry and Marionberry. and they do fruit early.

They have large, very sweet black fruit, and are quite thorny. They are relatively new hybrid developed in Austalia ( I think )

This place sells them

http://www.cooltemperate.co.uk/blackberries.shtml

so might be able to help you check if this is the one.
