I've some asparagus crowns coming from dobies arriving any time now.
I keep reading thhat I mustn't harvest or eat them for the first year.

Well - what happens if I do eat them?? The world isnot going to stop spinning is it?

Or will I just ruin the plant?

Can I eat half of them?

Then perhaps asparagus isn't a good choice of crop for you.  Do you like radish??

Spookily just got home and asparagus has arrived!
Looks a bit different than I was expecting!

Problem now - raised beds will be another few days until they are filled and ready for the plants. What shall I do with them in the meantime>?

Do I plant the whole thing in there or keep the stalks above ground?

Sorry for all the dumbass questions. I fully planned to research all this thoroughly before everything arrived but I've been swamped opening our new shop the past month!

you need to dig out a wide trench about 250mm wide and the same depth,half fill it with manure then sprinkle a tadge of soil on the muck just to blind it.place your crowns on this 200mm-250mm apart and gently backfill covering the crowns,let them grow this year and towards the end of the year when its died back remove any growth and give it another dressing of compost/manure,
and another thing is always keep it weed free.
