strawberry runners in tubs?
« on: July 01, 2009, 09:09 »
got a couple of planters with strawberrys in which have runners on them. I know to peg the runner into the ground so it roots a new plant but how can i do this in a planter. Maybe i could put pots at the side and peg the runners into these but i tend to turn the planters so all the strawbs get equeal sunshine any suggestions please.

thanks.

if possible could you move the planters into a better spot so the sun passed them overhead? If not, sounds like you might have to keep turning the runner pots round with the planters, but I'b be a bit worried about disturbing them. Guess the cost of a Lazy Susan turntable wouldn't be viable

You can buy cheapo black plastic turntables on eBay. I think they're for PC monitors usually but they're really strong.

I have a planter but i havent managed to rotate mine as im worried it wont take the strain, the difference is very obvious but i cant do much about it, might have a look for one of those monitor stands though - good idea.

good idea helenk but unfortunatly mine are on a graveled area so not sure the turntable would work. Iv now moved them to a more central open position s o hopefully i can get the trunners pegged.
Will the new plants be better off over wintered in a cold greenhouse?

I stuck mine in my plastic greenhouse over last winter and come spring they had done quite well. I don't think I watered them all winter, they had a few manky leaves but only to be expected and they're all been great this year. Had loads to give away too which is always nice.
