I Have started growing veg in an old walled garden this year, I have something which is digging holes in the soil around my potatoes and leaving them half eaten on the ground. Any ideas what this could be? No evidence of rabbits (ie no droppings near the holes). Could it be rats? I am in a very rural location, and the walled garden is quite animal poof.

I have a squirrel that digs in the tubs I grow my potatoes in. They have never eaten any of the potatoes usually it tries to plant some food in the tub. Just wondering if you have one that digs deeper and unearths a potato or two.
