What do onions leave behind ?
« on: June 27, 2009, 16:19 »
Hi,

I don't have a rotation plan but I find out what nutrients plants leave in the soil and see what will like that.

So can anyone tell me what do they leave in the soil, if anything ?

As far as I know, I don't think they leave anything behind like nitrogen nodules from peas. I know leeks (in the same family) are supposed to be good for breaking up the soil like potatoes. Maybe it's best to look at what nutrients they don't use so much of; i.e. peas and beans follow my root crops so I would say nitrogen.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.
