There's flowers, time to dig up spuds?

Regardless of whether the potatoes you planted are earlies or lates, is it correct to say that if the plant is in flower there will be spuds under the soil that can be dug up and eaten?

We lived for days on nothing but food and water.

yes they can but you might find they are tiny spuds. I tested on that had flowered and had small spuds. Still very nice :)

However I found spuds growing where my onions are this year, so dug them up and I had loads of lovely spuds. In fact I had more this year from last years leftovers than I had from all of last years slug damaged crop!!! :)

The moral of the story is furtle before digging!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

you could also as they say give it a good ferreting instead of furtleing.  Good luck

Opinions about the right time to harvest vary. Some people say to let the greenery die down first and some start harvesting as soon as the flowers are gone. Also depends how big potatoes you want. I'd have a little peek to see whats going on and then decide  :D

The right time to harvest is when you want them, how you want them.

If you want new tatties, you'll have to lift before the foliage dies down, round about flowering time.

For larger spuds for storing, you'll have to let the plant grow until it shuffles of this mortal coil.
