SWEETHEART Cabbage seedlings

Can someone tell me perhap why my seedling have keeled over and shrivelled and died?
There were germinated in a tray in greenhouse and appeared to get a bit 'leggy'  putting them outside on these warmer days they have just shivelled and keeled over, not all at once but several at a time... maybe I should have sowed them direct into cooler soil?

Yes, sow direct now.

If I ever germinate brassicas indoors, then I put them outside as soon as they break the surface.  Outside meaning open air if weather permits or coldframe / sheet of glass if weather is still cold.

Is it the heat that's killed them?
