I just went up to the allotment to put in my pumpkins I've been growing in pots and the undersides of some of the leaves were covered in what looked a lot like blackfly -  is this normal? I've never heard of blackfly on pumpkins before. or is it some other bug?? I gave it a spray in fairy liquid and water, a la broadbeans, just in case!

Mine have been planted on the plot for 3 weeks and i checked on them at the weekend and they were all completly covered in black fly....they are getting a good soaking tonight!

Just found one in the greenhouse exactly the same

so it's obviously more common than I thought - I must have been lucky the last couple of years then. although the last 2 years I grew butternut squash, and they were fine. Also the courgette plants right next to them on the table were untouched - strange!
