As well as the beans ,i think  theres something up in the onion bed.Out of 73 sets planted, 70  are doing pretty well.There was an iffy smell at one end of the bed (like something rotting),after a closer look the base of one onion looked like it had  gone rancid.I took it out,as well as the surrounding soil&it was completly rotten&wet &gooey.Isaw another one that was the same ,about 3 foot away&did the same with that.
   Any ideas on what it may be?

Is there white fluffy mould on it too?

No ,not really like the pic. The stems were green but the bulb had almost collapsed& wash very "mushy". No mould.
